Preliminary Knowledge: | The basic view of psyche in nature sciences and human sciences. Anatomy and physiology of nervous system. | ||||||||
Objective: | To provide basic knowledge of human mental functioning and psychosomatic aspects in dentistry; skills in giving psychoemotional support; therapeutic hygienist -patient relationship differences within different personalities. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | Analysis of clinical cases. Review of scientific literature. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | I. Knowledge – ability to define: 60%: 1. Patient's mental health criteria (20%) 2. Patient's mental defence mechanisms (20%) 3. Principles of building a therapeutic relationship between dental hygienist and patient (20%) II. Skills: 40%: 1. Basics of building a therapeutic relationship between dental hygienist and patient (20%) 2. Elements of dental hygienist - patient support psychotherapy (20%) The exam grade is cumulative. It consists of: 1. Intermediate examination - 50%. At the choice of the lecturer: • Video analysis and / or • Clinical case description and / or • Open questions at the beginning of the lesson and / or • Multiple choice test and / or • Preparation of a presentation on the topic of the lesson. 2. Final exam (50%) - electronic, e-learning available or face-to-face multi-choice test on the topics covered within the course. It is possible to credit the automatic final test if the following criteria are met: -excellely passed mid-term examination; -100% attendance of classes and lectures; -active participation in discussions and role plays. OR A presentation on the topic of the cycle lesson has been prepared (literature review); (b) a clinical case; c) the latest research (according to the topic of the lesson). | ||||||||

Knowledge: | Basic knowledge of interaction between personality structure, development and functioning; interaction between mental and somatic processes and psychosomatic aspects in practice. | ||||||||
Skills: | Will develop skills to analyze different personality characteristics and relationship examples; develop skills to analyze clinical cases in practice from psychosomatic view. Skills in giving supportive therapy elements in therapeutic hygienist - patient relationship. | ||||||||
Competencies: | To recognize psychosomatic disorders in practice and recommend consultation with a psychotherapist. To give supportive therapy elements. | ||||||||
