Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Standard anatomy, biomechanics of muscular and nervous systems, basics of physiotherapy relating to motor control theory, analysis of movements and general classification of exercises.
Objective:
• To gain knowledge of control mechanisms of human body movements and posture, functional anatomy and develop understanding of coordinated functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems to ensure motions and keeping of posture. • To acquire knowledge of and develop practical skills in palpating structures of the musculoskeletal system, qualitative and quantitative assessment of movements, correct selection of therapeutic exercises and their practical application.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Prior to each lecture the students should revise their knowledge of material relating to the theme of the day (biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, motor control); practice palpation skills working in pairs; analyse situations (amount of movement and functional activities) working in groups. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
• Written tests and oral exams (assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical skills) on completion of each theme of the course. • Final exam (combined) consisting of the theoretical part (written multiple-choice test) and demonstration of practical skills (identification of bone and soft structures by palpation) and analysis of the situation (assessment of the activity, selection of therapeutic exercises and their demonstration with the help of a model).
Final Examination (Full-Time):Exam
Final Examination (Part-Time):Exam
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Upon completion of the course the student should be able to describe functional anatomy of joints of the human body, identify structures involved in implementation of movements and keeping of posture and their coordinated work, define normal amount of movement and its quality, explain conditions determining choice of therapeutic exercises.
Skills:Upon completion of the course the student should be able to palpate bone ‘landmarks’ and soft tissues, evaluate movements in joints engaged in motion and posture keeping and type of muscle work, choose therapeutic exercises and use them to improve motor control in specific joints.
Competencies:Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to analyse movements of joints and muscle work necessary for various functional activities, plan and develop therapeutic exercises to improve the level of motor control.
