Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Knowledge of the English language. Without preliminary knowledge of Latvian.
Objective:
To acquire basics of Latvian in order to be able to communicate at basic level A1 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Home assignments for acquisition of lexical and grammatical content. Preparing a presentation on topic "Me and my daily routine". Students are obliged to fill in the course evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.
Assessment Criteria:
Mandatory participation and active work in practical classes. Presentation – 40%. At the end of the course – a written colloquium to check grammar and vocabulary – 60%. The final result of the course is made up of the average grade of both tests.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Upon successful completion of the course, students will know: • the lexical minimum of conversational themes, • the most common language rules, • the principles of question formation, including question words.
Skills:Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to apply Latvian in study process and basic daily communication.
Competencies:Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to use Latvian language at basic level in daily communication.
