Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Having completed the mandatory Latvian course (2 or 3 semesters) but no additional Latvian courses.
Objective:
To learn the basic vocabulary and conversation skills necessary to interview a patient efficiently: body parts, most common complaints, and most common sentence structures.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Individual work – memorizing listed vocabulary of the corresponding topic.
Assessment Criteria:
At the end of each semester – an oral test on the topics covered during the semester: a conversation with a patient according to a given pattern. The final grade consists of the 1st-semester test results (50%) and 2nd-semester exam results (50%). At the end of the course, every student must fill the course evaluation survey.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the course students will be able to use the basic vocabulary of medical conversation: body parts, sensations, most common symptoms.
Skills:On successful completion of the course students will be able to formulate questions in simple Latvian and grasp the point of the answer about the most common medical complaints.
Competencies:On successful completion of the course students will be able to use the skills they gained in their basic Latvian course to interview patients about the most common complaints.
