Objective: | To develop masters students' professionalism, by creating awareness of the philosophy of the profession, the professional activity in education, health- and social care settings, the collaboration within the multiprofessional team, evidence-based practice, the legal and ethical aspects of the profession, as well as organisation of activity and entrepreuneurship in arts therapies. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | To independently consolidate the lecture material by reading the indicated sources systematically; to prepare for the examination – test. To analyse in writing one of the given cases in relation to an ethics dilemma, to perform the analysis and presentation of this dilemma. To prepare a video material or a presentation of one of the arts therapies specialisations and present it. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | The final grade in this study course is formed cumulatively - from the assignments and tests completed in both study semesters. In the fall semester: 1.1. Test* on the professional activity of an art therapist and its legal issues (25% of the total score), 1.2. Work in groups of 3-4 students, creating a practically oriented work on the professional activity of an art therapist in Latvia (25% of the total evaluation). In the spring semester: 2.1. Test on the topic of Entrepreneurship (25% of the total score), 2.2. Drafting the text of the informed consent (15% of the total grade) 2.3. Up to 10 min. a long presentation (with visualization) on self-help/psychohygiene activities, with the therapist taking care not to burn out (10% of the total score). *Topics for the test: 1. Definition of art therapy, terminology 2. Art therapist education and status in health care 3. Health care system, policy, financing 4. Art therapy: development of the health care profession (experience of Latvia and other countries) 5. Integration of art therapy into health care, social care and education systems 6. Art therapy professional associations 7. Legal forms of business organization and their regulatory framework 8. Economic activity and commercial activity, principles of organization of professional practice 9. Forms of activity of an art therapist and different places of work / practice 10. Objectives and indications of art therapy 11. Competences, skills, duties and tasks of an art therapist 12. Art therapist personality qualities 13. Knowledge: | Explain in theory the system of healthcare services in Latvia, the principles regulating professional activity, describe the professional activity according to the regulatory documentation and entrepreneurship organisation principles; analyse the situations according to the legal norms and ethical principles; characterise the principles of multi-professional teamwork and communication, the limits of arts therapists’ and other specialists' competencies. | ||||||||
Skills: | Analyse the examples of patients' rights and art therapist's rights of the professional activity, explain the aims and tasks, possibilities and restrictions, professional ethics principles of arts therapies to the potential employers and other specialists; use unified, standardised language to characterise the patient's functioning and health condition in health care environment; apply theoretical knowledge in order to choose the legal form and status that is appropriate for the plans of their professional activity on the basis of the legislative framework. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Prepare and present the information about the aims and tasks, possibilities and restrictions of arts therapies pursuant to the art therapist's performance regulating documents and the basic principles of the professional ethics, using theoretical sources and prepared video material or presentation. | ||||||||
