Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:As a result of successful acquisition of the study course, students: • will know the latest classification of perodontal and peri-implant tissue diseases: • outline the main causes of dental connective tissue diseases and their contributing factors; • comment on the pathogenesis of periodontal disease; • will be guided by the general principles of treatment of periodontal diseases and the sequence of treatment methods; • will know various tools for mechanical surface cleaning; • Will know oral disinfectants and rinses.
Skills:As a result of successful acquisition of the study course, students will be able to: • complete periodontal examination, including probing depth, probing bleeding, exudate, periodontal disease screening, indexing, gum recession, loss of clinical attachment, tooth mobility, furcation lesions, mucogingival line location, signs of gingivitis. • interpret the data obtained in the periodontal examination; • perform supragingival and subgingival (up to 5 mm in pockets) instrumentation using specialized instruments. • to recognize and differentiate different forms of periodontal disease; • create an initial plan for the primary treatment phase; • maintain periodontal health through professional care and patient self-care during maintenance therapy. • motivate and train patients for appropriate individual oral care; • eliminate and control local risk factors for periodontal disease. • to evaluate systemic risk factors for periodontal disease. • assess the need for specialized periodontal treatment.
Competencies:As a result of successful acquisition of the study course, students have: ability to put into practice the acquired knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and treatment of patients' oral diseases, the ability to perform a full periodontal examination of the patient and to interpret the data obtained in the examination, ability to cooperate with a periodontologist during the maintenance treatment phase, the ability to remove bacterial biofilm on the surfaces of the tooth crown and root by minimally invasive methods, the ability to use a variety of tools to follow recent trends in the treatment of periodontal disease, the ability to evaluate and prescribe appropriate antibacterial therapy in accordance with their competencies or in collaboration with a periodontologist.
