Basics of Radiation Diagnostics (RAK_025)
About Study Course
Objective
To provide knowledge about the most frequently used radiological methods in diagnostic radiology in the examination of the head, back and bone-joint system (radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging), including information on:
• Physical differences of methods, safety in work with ionizing radiation and basic principles of safety in the magnetic resonance room;
• The choice of methods for the evaluation of different tissues and body regions, their indications and contraindications in the diagnosis of various pathologies;
• The peculiarities of the terminology used in the radiological descriptions, the radiological features of the most common pathologies and the basic principles of interpretation of images.
Prerequisites
Normal and pathological anatomy, physics, physiology, propaedeutics, therapy and surgery.
Learning outcomes
As a result of mastering the course, students know the physical principles of the most frequently used radiological methods, the differences between their application, examination indications, and contraindications. Knows the basic principles of occupational safety in diagnostic radiology facilities, including safety regulations for work with ionizing radiation. Understands the terminology used in radiological reports.
As a result of mastering the study course, students are able to choose an appropriate set of radiological methods for the diagnosis of various head, musculoskeletal, spinal and joint pathologies; analyze radiological reports; recognize the normal radiological structures of the musculoskeletal system and are familiar with the most common head, musculoskeletal, spinal and joint pathologies.
As a result of the study course, students will be able to critically analyze the descriptions of radiological examinations of the head, back and bone-joint system and draw the necessary conclusions in the choice of further tactics, will be able to identify indications and contraindications for ordering new radiological examinations.
