Requirements
Education and knowledge
- Doctoral degree, preferably in a field related to the activity of the Institute
- Internationally recognized research activities with a minimum h-index of 8
- Valid expert status with the Latvian Council of Science
- Outstanding scientific or clinical activity with demonstrable results at Latvian or international level in Oncology or Molecular Genetics
- Knowledge of how to create a productive and inclusive scientific, academic or clinical culture in the unit under management
- Knowledge of an area of the Institute’s activities and related technologies
- Knowledge of public and private funding programmes and knowledge of organising and managing large national or international projects in oncology
- Knowledge of the most important organisations in the field in Latvia and internationally and an understanding of the role of the Institute and opportunities in the network of these organisations
- Experience of providing infrastructure services at organisational or wider level is desirable
- Experience of the operation of international consortia
- Excellent knowledge of Latvian and English at least at B2 level (according to Europass self-assessment grid)

Responsibilities
- Establish the structure of the Institute, plan and manage the daily work of the Institute
- Develop the Institute’s research programme in accordance with RSU Development Strategy
- Attract research funding to ensure the operation of the Institute, plan and control the Institute’s budget and use of resources
- Ensure the development and accessibility of the Institute’s infrastructure to RSU departments
- Ensure the attraction of funding necessary for research activity from various national and international funding programmes
- Coordinate scientific research in the field of oncology within the framework of national and international research programmes
- Represent RSU and the Institute in organisations related to its activity
- Ensure the development and continuity of the staff of the Institute, analyse and evaluate the work of the staff
