RSU is currently looking for a highly motivated Research Output Steward to join our team, to work in 2 EU Joint Programme Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) funded projects related to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

 

Work Location: Riga, Latvia (remote option possible)

Working Time: 20-40 hours per week

Employment Contract: For 22 months, with an option to extend 

 

Candidates profile

  • The successful candidate should have at least a BSc in (healthcare/medical or bio-) informatics, computer science, (bio)statistics, (computational) biology or another equivalent degree in a related field
  • Prior work experience in a research output (RO) (data/software and workflow) steward or related role and/or at least familiarity with best practices of RO Governance & Stewardship, as well as the findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reuse (FAIR) principles and RO lifecycle management activities, is not mandatory but would be highly advantageous
  • Computer programming skills (bash, R and Python/Perl/Julia or Java) are not mandatory but would be highly advantageous
  • Previous experience with Linux OS, high-performance computing (HPC) and/or cloud platforms (AWS, DNAnexus) is not mandatory but would be highly advantageous
  • Strong written and oral communication and technical writing skills in English
  • Excellent troubleshooting, listening and problem-solving skills
  • Detail and task-oriented, highly organized, with the ability to spot and improve gaps in processes, independently completing tasks, able to work in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Prior experience with or at a least basic understanding of omics technologies, in particular, transcriptome (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq) and metabolome profiling and/or rare neurological diseases would be highly advantageous

 

Job Description: 

  • Supervise and support researchers and students to properly and securely collect, store, analyze, exchange and (re-)use research data and related information (meta-data) and/or assist them in generating and documenting FAIR research software/workflows ensuring adherence to specified standards and access for the right users at the right time
  • Perform RO investigations and advise researchers on careful RO management practices and stewardship procedures, including the technical aspects that are important to ensure the quality of (meta-)data
  • Increase the awareness of and consult the researchers on data protection procedures and data governing policies, including the privacy regulations to protect sensitive Data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) guidelines
  • Create and provide training on RO stewardship procedures that relate to the RO management (ROM) field and FAIR principles
  • Continuously monitor, understand and document current processes, systems and data, software and workflow structures, creating and implementing optimized research output stewardship procedures and improved RO management practices
  • Contribute to scientific articles and assist with drafting research project applications in relation to the data lifecycle management activities, as well as perform technical writing such as drafting a Research Output Management Plan (ROMP)
