Rīga Stradiņš University invites applicants for a full-time tenured professor position in neurology and neuroscience.


The tenured professor will be required to conduct excellent fundamental, applied or clinical research in the field of neurology and neuroscience, develop an independent, externally funded research direction and expand the international recognition of Rīga Stradiņš University.

We offer:

  • A full-time position with salary of EUR 5000 (gross) per month, along with a variable component of remuneration based on performance
  • Starting grants for commencement of scientific activities and adequate resources to accomplish goals
  • The tenured professor is approved in the position for 6 years with a performance review after 3 years. In case of a positive evaluation, the employment contract is extended. Before the 6-year period, the performance is reviewed repeatedly and in case of a positive evaluation, the Rector of RSU concludes an employment contract with the employee for an indefinite period with regular performance reviews at least every 6 years.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in science (PhD)
  • The Hirsch index of at least 10 (or extensive verifiable professional experience in clinical research), publications indexed in Scopus/Web of Science over the last 3 years, relevant to the discipline group of the position
  • Academic experience of at least 3 years as a professor or associate professor
  • Experience in teaching 
  • Experience in research project management at international and/or national level
  • Experience in the preparation, management and partnership in projects funded by the EU programmes for research and innovation (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe), or equivalent, rated above the quality threshold
  • Experience in managing a research team
  • Impeccable reputation and recognition in the relevant research field
  • Experience in communicating with the public
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language 

Responsibilities

  • Develop the proposed research programme in the specific discipline group and field
  • Attract the funding necessary for the implementation of the research programme, including the funding necessary for the development of the research team
  • Lead research projects and participate in the implementation of other research projects of RSU and cooperation partners
  • Organise and participate in educational and advisory activities
  • Participate in international consortia and projects
  • Supervise doctoral and post-doctoral theses
  • Prepare scientific publications and communicate research results
  • Develop research infrastructure and research methods
  • Adhere to the requirements of research ethics and data security principles and applicable regulations

  • A motivation letter containing a vision of the goals to be achieved
  • Curriculum Vitae, including ORCID iD, the applicant’s scientific, teaching and organisational experience, professional development activities, a list of major publications over the last 6 years, and any other documents or information that the applicant wishes to add to the application in order to better describe his/her qualifications and eligibility
  • Copies of documents certifying the obtained academic and scientific degrees
  • Self-attestation of the English language proficiency
  • Information on persons who can provide references or testimonials from cooperation partners, employers or professional associations in which the applicant was or has been active
  • A description of the research programme and the research plan for the next 6 years, appropriate to the respective scientific discipline group, containing the justification of the research topic, information on the human resources and infrastructure required, existing developments and international cooperation, as well as a strategy for attracting external funding
