RSU Confucius Centre invites to the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival
RSU Confucius Centre invites everyone to the canteen in the RSU central building (16 Dzirciema iela) to join in the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival or Yuánxiāo Jié on Monday, 13 February at 4:00 p.m. In China, the lantern festival traditionally marks the first full moon of the Chinese year and is celebrated with everything that is round-shaped, bright and complete – eating meatballs and round sweet dumplings, decorating the room with lanterns containing riddles, reading poems and making speeches to honour the glorious full moon.
As noted by the China Project Coordinator Chen Hongmei, “This year’s RSU lantern festival will be devoted to appreciating everything round-shaped, complete and uniting. We invite everyone to take part in guessing lantern riddles, trying traditional Chinese dishes, enjoying Chinese classical music performance or joining efforts in pairing Chinese characters and other activities.”
The event will be attended by RSU officials, the Ambassador of China to Latvia Mr. Huang Young, there will be a video greeting from former RSU students from China, a classical Chinese music performance on a guzheng by the musician Wang Dan and students from RSU Confucius Centre will be reading poetry.
The Lantern Festival is organised by RSU Confucius Centre with the aim of bringing the Chinese and Latvian cultures closer. The event will be hosted by the Director of the Confucius Centre Una Aleksandra Bērziņa-Čerenkova and Project Coordinator Chen Hongmei.
