On 3 December, at 15.00, the guest lecture "Mentoring programs for young people with intellectual disability" by Prof. Nathan Wilson (Australia) will take place at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre (METC), 26a Anniņmuižas bulvāris.
On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December, Prof. Wilson will give a summary of his research into mentoring programs to promote greater participation and inclusion of young people with intellectual disabilities.
The presentation will cover the origins of the research idea, the initial individual studies carried out to identify gaps in existing programmes, and the results of a pilot study to test the effectiveness of the measures implemented.
The presentation will be of interest to anyone interested in applied research in the health and social sciences.
About the lecturer
Prof. Wilson is Director of the higher degree research program in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Western Sydney University, Australia. An expert in health and social research to improve outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Prof. Wilson is currently based in Latvia building research and practice collaborations with service providers and interested researchers.
