Young and Future Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialists Represent RSU at European Congress

On 8-10 March, Paris, France, hosted the 26th European Congress of the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG), where young and future specialists from Latvia presented the results of their research work. This congress is organised once every two years, discussing current events and leading opinions in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Rīga Stradiņš University was represented by doctoral student Irina Jermakova, residents Olga Plisko, Olga Boka, Elizabete Pumpure and Anna Kornete, as well as fifth-year students of the Faculty of Medicine Krista Krūmiņa and Zane Rostoka with nine presentations in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.

The Latvian delegation was praised by organisers of the congress for the active participation of future specialists in scientific and organisational work. During this congress, a training project of European obstetrics and gynaecology specialists was presented for the first time, the principal goal of which is to ensure equivalent training and, subsequently, women’s healthcare across the region.

EBCOG as an organisation takes active part in the improvement of skills and knowledge of young specialists, and one of the ways of implementing it is annual resident exchanges. These exchanges are organised for three days, during which a resident is given an opportunity to become acquainted with the healthcare system of another country and characteristic features of training, as well as to establish contact with young specialists from other countries. This year, first-year students of the RSU Faculty of Continuing Education, Anna Kornete and Elizabete Pumpure, participated in this exchange in France from Latvia, not only gaining valuable experience in Paris and Marseilles hospitals, but also making new friends — colleagues from other countries to continue cooperation.
