Students and medical residents from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) are welcome to apply for the international training programme AIRIS 2020 on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Applications are open until June 5.

The training programme will provide an understanding into how artificial intelligence can contribute to solving the shortage of healthcare specialists around the world and to make healthcare services accessible to everyone.

Ingus Skadiņš

Assistant Professor Ingus Skadiņš, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), describes the rapid transition from on-site to remote studies as a cold shower. However, Asst. Prof. Skadiņš emphasises that the university as a whole, including the Faculty of Medicine, has successfully survived this sudden shock and adapted to the new circumstances together with students.

Liene Ņikitina-Zaķe

‘The greatest task this year is to draft a five-year research development strategy for the university,’ says Liene Ņikitina-Zaķe, Director of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Research Department. She has worked intensively in the field of science at the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre for many years, received the L’Oréal grant for a genetic study of rheumatoid arthritis, led the genetic diagnostics laboratory GenEra and has now joined the RSU science development team.

The RSU Student Union: Students’ Friend and Advisor

For Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) students, just like for society at large, this is a complicated time of change when everyone must adapt their everyday activities to the current regulations. The RSU Student Union (SU) actively continues to represent students’ interests and assist them in the study process. The successful spring academic seminar that was recently held by SU attests to this.

Lauma Gulbe and Gusto

Gusto the dachshund takes every opportunity to compete with the laptop and curl up in its owner’s lap, 5th year medical student at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Lauma Gulbe. The puppy was adopted from a shelter and is the biggest (although very pleasant) obstacle to studying from home during the emergency situation, according to Lauma. The University has taken care of the rest – materials on the e-studies platform, Zoom lectures, classes, tests, problem-solving online with faculty management and even additional tools for coping with stress, says Lauma.
