A good film can serve as an excellent tool for learning, especially when supplemented with a lecture delivered by a professional of the field – This is the idea behind the film lecture series Cinema Lab that commenced at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 14 October 2019.

RSU medical residents represent Latvia at an international congress in Kiev

The annual Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Current and Discussable Matters congress took place between 3 and 4 October in Kiev. It was organised by the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ukraine. Latvia was represented at the congress by a delegation made up of medical residents Elizabete Pumpure, Anita Ungure and Santa Smilga from the Gynaecologist, Obstetrician study programme of the Faculty of Continuing Education at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

RSU ISA 8th Anniversary

The Rīga Stradiņš University International Students’ Association (RSU ISA) was founded in 2011 by a group of international students and is this year celebrating its 8th anniversary. As a part of the anniversary celebrations RSU ISA organised an entire week of celebrations from 14 to 18 October 2019. This anniversary was dedicated to the extraordinary contribution that the association’s members and supporters have made, and to those who have committed themselves to improving student life for the past eight years.

Erasmus+ recipe publication launched this month

This month Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), along with other European educational institutions, participated in the European Commission's Erasmus Days initiative. To recognise the Erasmus+ programme at the university, RSU's International Department has published a collection of recipes, Erasmus+ Culinary Journey.

Social anthropologist and guest lecturer at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Julia Vorhölter will give a public talk titled 'Crazy times: New [dis]orders and the emergence of psychotherapy in Uganda' on Tuesday, 29 October at 18:00.

The event will take place in the AsiaRes Reading Room (Level M) at the National Library of Latvia and is organised by the Latvian Anthropology Society together with the Latvian National Library and Rīga Stradiņš University.

RSU Expert Video: Dieting and eating disorders adversely affect women's reproductive health

Nowadays, we are well aware of the adverse effects of eating too much, but women's health is also adversely affected by the opposite problem - diets and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. This problem is also acute in Latvia where 10% of 15-year-old girls are overweight or obese, but 25% of girls of this age follow diets. Laila Meija, Associate Professor and dietitian at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), explains the damage that this can do to a woman's reproductive health.
