The aim of the Outdoor Sports and Recreation Education Summer School (OSRESS) is to foster the exchange and professional development of European sports professionals and students in the fields of recreation and sport. It also seeks to promote non-formal education by equally involving students and lecturers in the learning process.

It is a great opportunity for students and lecturers to exchange knowledge and experience. In addition to various practical physical recreation activities, each summer school includes an international scientific conference, where lecturers together with their students present the latest research in the fields of recreation and sport.

The idea for the International Summer School was conceived by Prof. Juris Grants (RSU LASE) and Assoc. Prof. Krzysztof Piech (Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw), who, together with a creative team of RSU LASE faculty members (Assoc. Prof. Inta Bula-Biteniece, Assoc. Prof. Kalvis Ciekurs, Assoc. Prof. Ivars Kravalis, and Assoc. Prof. Ingrīda Smukā), organised the first International Summer School in Latvia in 2010. Continuing this tradition, they have successfully organised several summer schools in Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Spain, and Italy, in collaboration with lecturers from other European universities.
