Basics of Latin Terminology (VC_027)
About Study Course
Objective
To acquire skills and knowledge of correct reading, writing, usage and explanation of anatomical terms, to integrate the knowledge obtained in other subjects and scientific and professional work.
Prerequisites
Latvian and English alphabet.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student will know:
• basic rules in reading and writing of medical terminology;
• to identify the Latin and Greek prefixes and word endings for new word formation;
• to name the Latin combining forms and their meanings;
• to name and interpret rules for making, explaining and usage of anatomical terms.
On completion of the course the students will be able to:
• correctly read and write the medical terms;
• identify and classify anatomical and clinical terms;
• form and explain the anatomical and clinical terms;
• classify and compare the medical terms;
• interpret Latin expressions, understand their meaning.
On completion of the course, the students will be able to write and properly use anatomical and clinical terms in academic settings and in their speciality.
