Objective

To develop students’ theoretical and practical skills in order to recognize dental hard tissue disorders and make decisions about their prevention and management at individual and population levels.

4. Microbiology;
5. General Medical Chemistry
6. Biomaterials in Dentisrry;
7. Preclinical Course in Operative Dentistry

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After successfully completing the course programme, the student will be able to:
• describe the structure and function of dental hard tissues
• describe the classification of dental hard tissue pathologies
• define the role of local and general factors such as micro-organisms, carbohydrates, tooth-saliva interactions, fluoride, nutrition, socio-economic factors in the origin of caries and other dental hard tissue pathologies;
• know the clinical manifestations of dental hard tissue pathologies and patient complaints
• diagnose and differentiate between different dental hard tissue pathologies.

Skills

After successfully completing the course programme, the student will be able to:
• select and apply the appropriate method and material for the treatment of caries and dental hard tissue pathologies, taking into account indications and contraindications;
• diagnose different dental hard tissue pathologies
• assess the condition and prognosis of the patient's dental hard tissues, caries activity and caries risk in different patient age groups
• develop a treatment plan, integrating treatment into the overall oral health plan;
• assess the results and prognosis of the treatment, the expected potential complications, develop the prevention of potential complications and, if necessary, modify the treatment plan.
• provide recommendations for caries prevention in different age groups of patients, as well as in patients with different caries activity and concomitant diseases.

Competence

On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to evaluate, prevent and control caries and other dental hard tissue disorders, to explain their integration in oral health system and interaction with other oral disorders and general health.
