Objective

To acquire and improve theoretical and practical skills in working with adults with various communication and language/speech disorders of various etiologies (stroke, oncological diseases, trauma, neurodegenerative diseases, hearing impairments etc.).

Prerequisites

Voice therapy; Acquired neurological communication disorders, course paper; Disorders of Speech Rhythm and Tempo; Introduction into Alternative and Augmentative Communication.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

• will list communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders of various aetiologies in adults;
• will classify communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders in adults;
• will describe ways of learning about disorders;
• will list the possible types of therapy in cases of communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing, hearing disorders in adults.

Skills

• will demonstrate knowledge of communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders in adults (within the scope of their competence);
• will assess the state of communication and speech/language, swallowing, voice in adults;
• will analyse the disorder;
• will plan the necessary therapy;
• will demonstrate the implementation of the planned therapy.

Competence

• will systematise the obtained a medical history and assessment data on communication and language/speech, voice, swallowing, hearing disorders in adults;
• will interpret the obtained medical history data, will create individualized therapy plans and helps adults improve their communication, language, voice, swallowing and hearing skills.
