About Study Course
Objective
Promote the acquisition of knowledge about possible disasters and their types; to navigate in disaster and military situations and to be able to provide professional medical assistance and care, as well as to promote the acquisition of knowledge about the pathophysiological mechanisms of exposure to extreme factors of the external environment, clinical manifestations and treatment options, to understand the interaction between health and the working environment and the principles of solving possible problems.
Prerequisites
In normal anatomy and functional physiology, emergency care, internal and surgical diseases, trauma and patient care, clinical pharmacology and laboratory diagnostics, chemistry and biology.
Learning outcomes
As a result of learning the study course, students will be able to tell about the types of disasters and tactics of action in the event of a disaster; will be able to define disaster and military medicine; will be able to describe the situation of disasters in Latvia, name their reasons. Will be able to list and describe the basic principles of rescue in disaster and military situations.
As a result of learning the study course, the student will be able to assess the harmful effects of various external environmental factors on the human body. To know and apply the principles of therapy in case of various acute situations at the scene, during transportation and in the hospital, as well as to adopt a therapeutic action plan appropriate for an individual patient, balancing it with the guidelines.
Students understand and appreciate the system of disaster and military medicine in the overall health care system; organizes psychosocial support for victims of disasters and war; organizes and conducts evaluation and debriefing sessions. Provides emergency assistance in emergency, disaster and military situations. Understands the notification system established in Latvia and knows how to act when alarm sirens sound.
