Objective

To discover and analyse the link of the knowledge acquired during the study with the practical work of a dental hygienist in oral health education and promotion.

Prerequisites

In public health and health promotion philosophy, public health and care in dentistry, prevention of dental diseases.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students will know the principles and approaches of oral health promotion and education, as well as dietary recommendations related to dental caries and dental erosions.
Oral health needs assessment. Public health approaches to dental injury prevention.

Skills

1.Students will be able to evaluate the attitudes and knowledge of children and young people about the possibilities of promoting oral health.
Provide dietary recommendations for dental caries and dental erosions, evaluate feeding systems in kindergartens and schools.
Take preventive measures and provide acute assistance in cases of dental injuries.

Competence

1.Evaluate principles, approaches of oral health promotion and education, use of preventive programmes and strategies opposite to treatment regimes in dentistry. Educate children in kindergartens, primary schools and schools on promoting oral health. Also inform parents and teachers of children about oral health promotion options.
