Functional Physiology and Biological Regulatory Mechanisms (CFUBK_003)
About Study Course
Objective
To provide knowledge of the functions and regulatory mechanisms of the healthy human body and the ability to use this knowledge for problem solving within their specialty.
Prerequisites
Biology, physics, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- explain specific terms, such as homeostasis, metabolism, etc., which correspond to the field of physiology and describe the basic principles of physiological processes in the body.
- describe and relate the diverse physiological processes in the body and independently evaluate them on the basis of the methods learned for assessing regulation.
- describe the basic principles of vegetative, somatic, sensory and mental functions and their manifestation in the human body.
- explain the interaction of the organism with the environment and physiological adaptive mechanisms.
- describe the observation and registration of the main functions of the body and the detection of physiological processes (including disorders).
On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- compile and evaluate scientific literature related to the field of physiology.
- select relevant information related to the sub-disciplines of physiology.
- apply appropriate methods for the assessment of physiological functions, e.g. cardiovascular parameters.
- independently plan and design experiments in physiological sub-disciplines, independently choosing the most appropriate and relevant methods.
- record and analyse data, interpret the results and formulate the obtained results and conclusions in scientific language.
- present and prepare the results of the research work, e.g. in a protocol, report, etc.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- formulate the topic of a scientific research work and formulate a literature-based problem.
- develop the design of research work and protocols related to its implementation for data collection and processing.
- select methodologically sound methods for data collection.
- interpret and analyse research data at an appropriate scientific level.
- argue and logically formulate and explain the results obtained, evaluating their significance and compliance with the theoretical basis.
- summarise the research in a scientific research form.
