About Study Course
Objective
To develop and realise a plan for oral health education, prevention and clinical treatment, its precise and positive accomplishment individually for each patient in care institutions for elderly people.
Prerequisites
Periodontology, Preventive dentistry, Dental Public health, Therapeutic stomatology (Cariology, Endodontics), Communication with a Patient, Oral Pathology, Emergency Medical Care, Prothetics in Dentistry, Dental Surgery.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge of gerontology; peculiarities of the older patients' body; understanding of pathological processes in the mouth of the elderly; knowledge in the treatment of elderly patients.
Ability to motivate and organise a referral to specialists for the treatment of pathological forms that are within the competence of different kind of specialists. When working in clinic, to choose treatment methods and materials appropriate to the patient's age and health status; skill to find contact with older people and choose appropriate recommendations for prophylactic remedies.
To identify risk groups according to elderly patients' general health condition and bad habits during clinical session of dental care.
To identify risk groups according to patients' skills in oral hygiene, saliva testing, intensity of caries, periodontal and oral mucosa conditions and occlusion.
Will be able to educate and develop individual care plans within their competence for elderly patients.
