Objective

The purpose of the course is to familiarise with the most important theories in the field of communication, as well as the analysis models offered by them and the conceptual apparatus used in relation to the existence of the media space in information society. Attention will be focused on the cultural reality created by the opportunities of information society, i.e. the new media culture for the purposes of familiarising with the most prominent net art examples, as well as examples of media activism, which critically view the media space, communication created by the internet – the so-called information society existence conditions.

History of ideas.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

To find one’s way around the analysis models offered by communication theories about processes and values of information society.

Skills

During the course students will have to master the skill to critically analyse the processes ongoing in the information society in the context of Latvia applying the analysis models offered by the communication theory.

Competence

To be competent in digital gap, media determinism, virtual class issues.
