Objective

Provide students with the opportunity to acquire general knowledge of inheritance law, its sources, legal institutes that would promote acquisition of knowledge and skills characteristic to the field of law, enabling them to assess and apply the law and regulations regulating the legal relations of inheritance, understanding the key regularities and building a student’s competence in the field of inheritance law.

Prerequisites

Introduction to Civil Law, Family Law.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The student knows the institutions of the inheritance law, the rights and obligations of legal relationships among the participants; is able to demonstrate the understanding of the key concepts and regularities; is able to demonstrate the basic and specialist knowledge and critical understanding inherent to the field of the inheritance law; is familiar with the highest achievements of the inheritance law sector.

Skills

Ability to analyse, synthesize and evaluate: the complex nature of the inheritance procedure, which includes the components of legal, testamentary and contractual succession; the role and consequences of the expression of the will of the deceased and the heir; the procedure of the inheritance process; drawing up of legal documents. The student is able to demonstrate a scientific approach to problem solving; is able to structure his/her own learning independently and is able to make decisions and find creative solutions in changing or uncertain circumstances. The student is able to take responsibility and initiative by working individually, in a team or managing the work of other people. The student is able to express and analytically describe information, problems and solutions in the field of inheritance law using the theoretical bases and skills acquired, to explain them and discuss them in a reasoned way with both professionals and non-professionals.

Competence

The student is able to find a solution to the relevant factual circumstances in the field of the inheritance law independently or within working groups and to prepare draft procedural documents. The student is able to independently select and process legal information necessary for the completion of the assignments. The student is able to take decisions and address problems in the field of the inheritance law; is able to continue education, to obtain legal information, to follow the current case law in the field of inheritance law.
