Objective

To provide students with an idea of ​​the essence of investigative journalism, its historical aspects and the causes of its formation, both at the theoretical and practical level. Taking into account the special role of investigative journalism in the operation of mass media, this course examines the main ethical and professional dilemmas of investigative journalism, the application of information gathering methods in investigative journalism, as well as the forms and formats of investigative journalism in various media segments. During the course, the latest research journalism approaches are tested and learned: data journalism, selection of computer-based information sources and tools, fact checking, analytical journalism, work with documents, etc.
The main task of this course is to make students learn the theoretical aspects of investigative journalism, history, methods of collecting informational material and approaches in investigative journalism. During the course of study, students learn to create investigative journalistic works by completing practical tasks.

Prerequisites

Completed study courses "Introduction to Journalism", "Introduction to Studies and Specialization", "Introduction to Communication Theories", "News Journalism", "Methods and Genres of Journalism", "Culture journalism".

Knowledge

As a result of studying the course, students will gain knowledge about:

• investigative journalism tasks, topics, sources;
• professional ethics of investigative journalism;
• modern development trends of investigative journalism.

As a result of studying the course, students:
• Will independently conceive, plan and implement investigative journalism work on various topics for various media platforms.
• Will collect, select, understand and present information for investigative journalism.
• Will create investigative journalism work according to the content, technical requirements and needs of the medium.
• Will use, process, analyze data to fulfill the goals of investigative journalism.

As a result of learning the course, students will acquaire:
• Ability to evaluate reality, applying information to create investigative journalism works.
