Medical Chemistry (FKK_006)
About Study Course
Objective
To introduce students to medicinal chemistry and to enable students to the opportunity to learn about medicinal substance existing and change in the body from the administration until elimination.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of organic chemistry, physiology, biochemistry.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
• Describe and explain process of mutual interactions of drug substances with various types of receptors;
• Describe metabolic changes of drugs;
• Explain drug interactions;
• Explain prodrugs;
• Identify and characterize frequently used groups of cardiovascular drugs.
Student will be able to:
• Identify mechanisms of pharmacological action of the most important groups of medications (enzyme inhibitors, inducers, calcium channel blockers and other);
• Objectively evaluate the possible origin of the substance interaction in case of co-administration;
• Analyse the articles in medicinal chemistry.
Students will be able to assess the physico-chemical principles of drug substances, the possibility of interaction, origin of interaction and structure – activity interaction.
