About Study Course
Objective
To develop communicative skills and skills in using English and German for study purposes and work in the future specialty; promote the learning of professional terminology and its practical use.
To build students' knowledge and understanding of the use and importance of the Latin language in learning medical terminology, to assess the importance of the Latin language in the learning of other study courses.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of English and German in the scope of the secondary school curriculum (B1 – C1).
Learning outcomes
In English and German - As a result of successful completion of the study course, students will: • recognize professional terminology in various types of texts; • name the English/German equivalents of the most commonly used terminology in the field of massage; • will describe various phenomena related to the field of massage using professional terminology in English/German.
After successfully completing the study course in Latin, the student will be able to: • explain the basic rules of pronunciation and writing of medical terminology; • recognize and name Latin and Greek prefixes and endings, for creating new words; • explain the elements of Greek terms and their meaning; • tell about regularities in the creation, explanation and use of anatomy and clinical terms.
In English and German - As a result of successful completion of the study course, students will be able to: • select and correctly use terminology for oral communication (e.g. making presentations, discussions) and in writing (e.g. doctor's notes, letters to a consultant, reviews of medical articles) in the field of massage; • use appropriate means of language expression to express one's opinion in both oral and written communication; • provide a summary of the obtained information, both orally and in writing, using appropriate terminology and recount the general content of the text; • find specific information in different types of texts from different information sources.
In Latin - After successfully completing the study course, the student will be able to: • correctly read and write medical terms in Latin; new words and identify them; • create and explain anatomy and clinical terms; • classify and compare medical terms; • read the Latin terminology in the recipe; • interpret Latin "winged" sayings, understand their meaning.
As a result of successful completion of the study course, students will be able to practically use the acquired terminology in various educational communicative situations and professional activities.
