Microbiology (BUMK_049)
About Study Course
Objective
To acquire knowledge about the spread, principles of classification, morphology, characteristics, methods for cultivation and identification of micro-organisms, fungi and viruses.
Prerequisites
In biology, anatomy, histology, biochemistry.
Learning outcomes
After completing the study course, students will be able to describe micro-organisms and the most relevant human parasites, describe their prevalence in the environment, understand and explain their pathogenicity and role in the origin of infectious diseases and interaction processes with macro-organisms.
As a result of completing the study course, students will be able:
• to investigate finished dosage forms;
• to apply disinfection and sterilisation methods in the production process of pharmaceutical preparations;
• to evaluate the aetiology of illnesses, sources of infection, transmission routes, pathogenesis, epidemiological hazard, prevention.
By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, students will have the opportunity to apply them in the form of a unified integrative understanding of the importance of bacterial and viral pathogenicity factors in the aetiology of the disease, and will be able to apply them to the mechanisms of pathogenesis and interaction with the host organism.
