Microbiology with Virology and Pathology (LF_404)
About Study Course
Objective
To provide knowledge about the role of microorganisms and viruses in the etiology of infectious diseases, their spread in the environment, their role in patient care, contamination of instruments and equipment, the origin of healthcare associated infections, their control and prevention measures.
Prerequisites
Biology, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology in the scope of the secondary education program are required to start the study course.
Learning outcomes
Students know about the structure and properties of bacteria, fungi, parasitic protozoa, worms, ectoparasites and viruses, their role in the origin and transmission of infectious and parasitic diseases, recognize the regularities of non-specific and specific defense mechanisms, understand the principles of infectious and parasitic disease control.
Students can properly pick up infectious and parasitic agent-containing material, store and transport it to the laboratory for microbiological, virological or parasitic examination, prepare, microscopy and analyze native and stained micropreparations of various materials, inoculate infectious material in media and apply disinfection and stroke proliferation control.
Understands the importance of microbiology in health care. Able to purposefully use methods of control of the spread of microorganisms, parasites and viruses, to explain to patients the origin, transmission, need for investigation and control measures of infectious and parasitic diseases.
