Neurology and Neurosurgery (NUNK_018)
About Study Course
Objective
To promote mastering of knowledge of a topical diagnosis in neurology, neurological examination, as well as mastering of knowledge of pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and treatment of nervous system diseases.
Prerequisites
Preclinical theoretical knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system (disciplines of the 1st and 2nd year of study).
Learning outcomes
As a result of mastering the course the student is able to tell how to evaluate a neurological and neurosurgical patient, describe different neurological syndromes and their differential diagnosis, able to list and describe pathogenesis, clinical manifestations of most common neurological diseases, as well as characterise and justify the choice of examination methods and therapy.
As a result of mastering the study course the student will be able to draw up an examination and therapy plan for neurological and neurosurgical syndromes and symptoms; to use the obtained knowledge in topical diagnostics to clarify the level of injury in the nervous system; to formulate a neurological diagnosis; to explain the selected treatment method and its use; to make a prognosis for the potential result of the disease and the therapy; to find one’s way in the latest international achievements in the neurologist’s and neurosurgeon’s work.
As a result of successful mastering of the study course the student is able to recognise symptoms of most common neurological and neurosurgical diseases, argument and logically substantiate a neurological diagnosis; to develop tactics fit for specific neurological clinical situation to diagnose and treat a neurological disease in an optimal way.
