Objective

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of functions of various body systems and their regulatory mechanisms and to provide skills to use this knowledge for solving medical problems in the framework of the speciality.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of biology, physics, chemistry and human anatomy.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The student will know: what is the normal function of organs, how to distinguish it from abnormal and how to influence the organ to normalize its function. Recognize abnormal indicators of body functions.

Skills

The student will be able to: apply theoretical knowledge and the most frequently used examination methods, for example – pulse palpation, arterial blood pressure measurement. Will focus on the most commonly used examination methods, such as electrocardiography, blood tests, etc.

Competence

The student will know and learn to evaluate the most frequently used examination methods, such as pulse palpation, arterial blood pressure measurement. Will know the most common health disorders and causes of death in Latvia and in the world.
