About Study Course
Objective
To provide students with knowledge about the subject of occupational health and the basic principles of occupational medicine, about risk factors of the work environment and pathological changes in the human body caused by them, occupational diseases and work-related diseases, as well as about the organization of medical services for employees and preventive measures in occupational safety and health protection.
Prerequisites
Knowledge in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, microbiology, physiology, environmental health, internal medicine, neurology.
Learning outcomes
• list the risk factors of the work environment - physical, chemical, biological, mechanical, psychosocial and organizational risk factors of the work environment;
• briefly describe the effect of occupational factors on the employee's health;
• explain the procedures for diagnosing occupational diseases in Latvia;
• describe the procedure by which mandatory health examinations are carried out in Latvia;
• outline the preventive measures for preventing health risks, improving the health of workers and preventing occupational diseases;
• to systematize the main principles of labor protection.
• critically analyze the risk factors of the work environment;
• suggest improvements to the work environment.
The acquired competence will allow:
• assess the potential impact of harmful risk factors on the health of employees;
• put forward proposals for mitigating the impact of risk factors in the work environment, as well as for preventing or reducing shortcomings in the work organization.
