About Study Course
Objective
To provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge about the specifics of the care of oncological patients and patients with pain, evaluation, observation, applying the holistic care model in maintaining the quality of life, as well as the importance of educating patients.
Prerequisites
In anatomy and physiology, pathological physiology, pharmacology, nursing process, philosophy and medical ethics, interpersonal communication in health care, transcultural care, general care.
Learning outcomes
As a result of completing the study course, students will acquire the necessary knowledge about oncological diseases and the principles of appropriate care, principles of palliative care and principles of care for patients in pain; will acquire the necessary knowledge about the care of oncological patients, palliative care patients and patients in pain in outpatient practice, the most common care problems and the nursing actions to prevent them; will acquire knowledge about the principles of education of oncology patients, palliative care patients and patients in pain and their relatives.
As a result of completing the study course, the student will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in practical work; provide care to oncology patients, palliative care patients and patients in pain in outpatient practice; recognise and solve care problems of oncology patients, palliative care patients and patients in pain; to educate patients and their relatives; provide psychological support to patients and their relatives; to establish contact with patients and their relatives taking into account their age, gender, state of health, personality characteristics and to comply with the principles of professional ethics and the rights of patients. To ensure safe portacath care – providing access (needle insertion), administration of medications and infusions, obtaining blood samples, learning to recognise various portacath problems and take appropriate actions.
