Oral Microbiology (BUMK_023)
About Study Course
Objective
To promote understanding of the way microbes influence oral health and oral health-care delivery. If you have an interest in this area its graduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral students have the expertise, equipment and resources to help you explore it. Active research in the section includes studies on oral biofilms, host/microbe interactions, endodontic microbiology, infection control and periodontal pathogens.
Prerequisites
In biology, anatomy, histology, biochemistry, general microbiology, immunology.
Learning outcomes
After completing the study course, students develop basic knowledge of the oral microflora, various ecological niches in the oral cavity. Improves skills in the evaluation of the pathogenesis of oral solid and soft tissue diseases. Competence on the role of various microorganisms in the pathogenesis of oral diseases and the role of normal microflora in the whole oral cavity will be supplemented.
As a result of the study course, the student will be able to collect and examine the clinical oral cavity, will be able to isolate a pure culture, determine and analyze changes in the number of microorganisms in the oral cavity.
Combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, students will be able to implement them in a unified integrative understanding of the role of bacterial and viral pathogenicity factors in the etiology of the disease, will be able to apply them to the mechanisms of pathogenesis and interaction with the host.
