Objective

To promote the acquisition of knowledge about the current principles and methods of organising maternal and child health care, as well as the set of health care organisations, its policy and financing issues in the country and in the world. To acquaint students with the theoretical assumptions of health care management and practical methods to use the opportunities. To provide an understanding of the quality management system in the health care system.

Prerequisites

Public health and epidemiology, the concept of health, philosophy and medical ethics, introduction to evidence-based care.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of mastering the study course, students will be able to define maternal and child health care policy, Latvian health care policy documents in general.

Skills

Students will acquire the ability to apply the Republic of Latvia and international health care legislation and recommendations, including the ICM, and EMA guidelines in the organization of midwifery in their professional activities.

Competence

Will be able to define and analyze the basic principles of quality management system. Will be able to analyse and offer solutions to improve the organisation and provision of maternal and child health process.
