About Study Course
Objective
To acquire profound knowledge of the topical issues in thoracic, cardiac and vascular surgery, transplantation and urology.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of anatomy, histology, physiology, pathophysiology and surgery, gained during 1st – 10th semesters in the Faculty of Medicine, RSU.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the students will have acquired knowledge and will be able to:
• discuss topical issues of thoracic, cardio-vascular surgery, transplantation and urology;
• describe the topical issues of aetiology and pathogenesis, treatment and prevention of surgical diseases.
On successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
• prepare the patient for a thoracic surgery and assess the efficiency of the preparation;
• distinguish between the artificial circulatory support and mechanical circulatory support methods; surgical treatment methods for ascending aortic and aortic arch diseases; transplantation and endourological surgery methods;
• describe the results of vascular examination and treatment options for vascular diseases.
On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
• interpret symptoms of thoracic, urologic, cardiac and vascular diseases and transplantation;
• analyse results of patient examination;
• prepare necessary laboratory and instrumental investigation plan for the patient;
• analyse a specific surgical case;
• interpret data acquired from laboratory and instrumental investigation methods;
• formulate and justify a full clinical diagnosis;
• plan tactics for a surgical clinical case;
• define indications for surgical and conservative treatment.
