Objective

To create understanding of producer’s work in different media industries: television, movies, etc., as well as the idea of music production. To obtain knowledge to be able to professionally evaluate the situation in the media industry, analysing practical aspects of projects.
When mastering the course, students are familiarised with real television projects, offering possibilities to study and analyse their technical, human, time and financial resources. During the course students will get the opportunity to develop their projects, starting from the idea to planning, which includes technical specification, flow of finances, etc. A detailed analysis of audio-visual works of public and commercial televisions will create an idea about the situation in the local media environment, existing competition, real project implementation possibilities and dilemmas of the industry in Latvia. The main goal of the course is to theoretically familiarise with different aspects of producer’s work and to practically develop strategies and plans of implementation of a specific video project.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of mastering the course students gain understanding about:
• the nature of production work and producer’s work in different media industries;
• production as an important component of media management;
• team work when implementing an audio-visual project.

Skills

As a result of mastering the course students obtain:
• skills to analyse diverse media production aspects;
• skills to create an audio-visual work ideas for further production and to implement them;
• ability to independently produce and develop an audio-visual project;
• ability to evaluate the production task and the resources it needs;
• ability to theoretically develop a small audio-visual project production cycle documentation and resource planning: financial, technical and other plans;
• ability to plan the budget, knowledge to control its fulfilment and fulfilment of the audio-visual project in general from its different aspects;
• ability to work in a management team led by a producer.

Competence

As a result of mastering the course students obtain:
• ability to evaluate the capacity of the audio-visual work production process;
• ability to evaluate the scope of resources involved in an audio-visual project;
• ability to define the genre and the format of an audio-visual project;
• ability to identify specific details of a project in the course of its practical implementation
