Objective

Provide knowledge of the human psychosocial needs in the context of care, provide knowledge and promote understanding of the developmental regularities and psychosocial functions of humans as biopsychosocial beings.

Prerequisites

Introduction to Sociology and Psychology. Introduction to Nursing.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon completion of the study course students will gain knowledge and be able to name factors determining the psychosocial needs of humans, main concepts and regularities of development theories, will have good knowledge of A. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Z. Freud’s Theory of Personality (personality structure, psychological defence mechanisms), the effect of human development and environment on the psychosocial health.

Skills

Students will comprehend human personality and cognitive development theories, will be able to assess patient’s psychosocial needs in the context of care according to his/her situation, by implementing the biopsychosocial approach to care.

Competence

Students will be able to collect and analyse personal life history data in the context of psychosocial needs, students will take into account individual’s psychosocial needs, when developing a care plan and providing patient care.
