Objective

To develop and deepen understanding of cognitive processes and personality research in adults and children using scientifically based methods; to develop understanding of how to make contact with a client/ patient, to set and coordinate the goals of psychological research with the client/ patient and, if necessary, specialists, to draw up and implement a psychological research plan; to write an opinion about the results of the psychological examination (assessment), to make recommendations and inform the client/ patient about the results of the examination.

Prerequisites

General Psychology, Biological Basics of Psyche, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology, Differential Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Psychological Research and Counselling, Group Counselling, Neuropsychology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Based on the latest research in the professional field, various aspects of the interaction between biological, psychological and social processes in the context of psychological assessment (evaluation) are analysed and critically evaluated in different client groups (children and adults). The student describes the cognitive process and the specifics of personality assessment, peculiarities/ needs of psychological assessment of clients/ patients; describes the structure of the opinion on the research results, explains the obtained results.

Skills

Explains professional aspects to both professionals and non-specialists (clients/ patients) in a reasoned way. Determines the purpose of psychological research (assessment) according to the specific situation and needs of clients/ patients, selects, develops and applies scientifically based psychological research (assessment) methods, prepares psychologist's opinion, as well as critically evaluates the effectiveness of own work taking into consideration legal and ethical aspects of the professional activity. Critically evaluates the information obtained under supervision.

Competence

Carries out the targeted research, interprets the results obtained, assesses the client/ patient's difficulties and resources, and draws up a potential psychological assistance plan for the client/ patient. Understands the cognitive process and personality-based research (assessment) methods, is able to reasonably select and apply these methods, interprets research findings and describes them in a structured opinion. Recognises own professional limitations and opportunities. Practices ethical responsibility by understanding the potential impact of own actions on the individual, group and the environment. Evaluates the effectiveness of own work. Under the supervision of a psychologist, plans and implements the development of own competences.
