Objective

To provide insight into the neurophysiological mechanisms of psychological functions in the human brain. Also, to build an understanding of the biological origins of reflexes, motivation, emotions, memory, attention, and consciousness, allowing the understanding of how these functions manifest in the human psychology. To promote students' skills to work both independently and in a group to gather information, analyse it and to present it in a written format and verbally.

Prerequisites

Biology and Genetics, Biomedical Basics of Human Functioning, General Psychology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

A student will be capable to explain physiological processes in the brain; to describe the physiological basis of psychological processes; as well as to present contemporary scientific notions about the neurophysiological mechanisms of psychological functions in the human brain.

Skills

A student will recognize different parts of the brain and will be able to describe their functions; as well as to explain the physiological basis of psychological processes; a student will be able to discern the psychophysiological mechanisms of psychological phenomena and to work both independently and in a group.

Competence

Students will be able to use the acquired knowledge about the diverse psychophysiological processes in the body in the specialised courses in the study programme "Psychology".
