Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1. Student knows the human neuro-hormonal structures and functional anatomy of the digestive system;
2. Student understands the diverse control mechanisms of physiological functions, with emphasis on the digestive function and metabolic homeostasis;
3. Student knows the basic immune physiological processes in the human organism.

Skills

4. chooses and uses anthropometric measuring devices for assessing a person's physical status;
5. determines and evaluates a person's somatotype according to anthropometric measurements;
6. determines the intensity of human metabolism both by calculation and nomogram methods and by using the method of indirect calorimetry.

Competence

7.student integrates knowledge of the diverse mechanisms of physiological function control to characterize processes of food intake and digestive function in the human organism;
8. student explains and integrates the results of anthropometric and metabolic measurements to evaluate the risk of cardio-metabolic diseases;
9. student analyses and explains the results of anthropometric measurements in accordance with the standards used in Latvia/ Europe and the world.
