Objective

To provide skills needed for working with scientific databases during the study process and afterwards;
Present different study models, explain their pros and cons in a way, that students are able to evaluate published studies themselves;
Foster students presentation and debate abilities, which are based on scientific studies.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, normal physiology, pathological physiology, biochemistry, nutrition basics. English language knowledge is mandatory.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After successful study course completion, students will be able to compare different study models that are used in scientific papers, understand their biases; they will know how to search for papers relevant to their criteria for bachelors or masters thesis; they will be competent to talk about latest research tendencies in nutrition science.

Skills

After successfully completing study course, students will acquire the following skills:
• Critically assess research;
• Correctly interpret scientific data;
• Gather and present relevant nutrition papers.

Competence

After successful completion of the course, the students independently analyze published studies, assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and to use this information in practice – in the further studies, working with clients, the media and public authorities.
