About Study Course
Objective
The aim of the course is to develop the professional competence of social workers – master students in the field of social rights, to provide knowledge of social security mechanisms, strategies and legislation, to provide knowledge of the institutional framework of the European Union (hereinafter – EU), the development of social rights in the EU and the interaction with the social security system of the Republic of Latvia. The course covers the procedure of the functioning of European and Latvian social security structures and the most important laws and international documents.
Prerequisites
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences.
Learning outcomes
The course will expand students’ knowledge of the basic principles of policies governing the social area and the legislative framework in the EU and Latvia.
To know the main EU and Latvian policy planning and regulatory documents in the field of social rights, to know how to use them, to know their interactions and to find the necessary laws (concepts, regulations, directives) for situations to be addressed in social work. Students are informed about current trends and initiatives in the EU and Latvia.
To use the acquired knowledge in the characterisation of the social security system and in the day-to-day work.
