Objective

To provide knowledge on the problems of drug poisoning in Latvia and worldwide, interactions between substances used in everyday life and medicines.

Prerequisites

Basic human anatomy, physiology and pathology, medical biochemistry.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students will have acquired the knowledge allowing:
• to understand the interactions between medicines and substances used in everyday life and how to prevent them.

Skills

The student will be able:
• to advise patients and medical professionals on the risks of interactions between medicines and substances used in everyday life;
• to take part in and organise health promotion activities for the society aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle and informed use of medicines.

Competence

The student will be able:
• to implement health promotion measures aimed at prevention and early detection of diseases;
• to monitor pharmacotherapy in case of chronic diseases.
