Objective

To familiarise with the nature of sports journalism, to learn the specifics of this type of journalism, to be able to create works in sports journalism for the needs of different media.

Prerequisites

Introduction to journalism. News journalism. Methods and genres of journalism.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

On successful completion of the study course students obtain knowledge about the history and development of sports; about showing of sports on radio, TV, press, websites, and about basic ethical principles of sports journalism.

Skills

On successful completion of the study course students are able to provide a comparative evaluation of sports and sports disciplines, able to prepare news, reports, interviews, press releases on radio, TV, press, websites. Able to organise a talk/interview with an athlete, coach, sports functionary. Able to prepare a summary and evaluation of statistical materials.

Competence

On successful completion of the study course students are competent in knowing the sports system and the ability to compare it with other countries, as well as the development and place of different sports in the general system. Able to argument and defend own opinion.
