Admissions to Doctoral Studies

Submit an application for studies

Apply for studies electronically via RSU e-Admissions from 1 September to 31 October 2025 (16:00 EET).

When you submit an application, you must upload copies and evidence of the following documents:

• A copy of your passport or ID card (both sides);
• A copy of a Master’s Diploma or the equivalent thereto as well as a copy of the Diploma Supplement;
• Applicant’s curriculum vitae (CV), including a list of scientific publications, traineeships in international universities, research institutions, and employment relationships related to doctoral studies;
• Participation in international, Latvian Council of Science (LCS), and higher education institution research projects on the topic area of the planned doctoral thesis (attach a letter of confirmation from the project manager);
• Statements from employers, international universities, or research institutions regarding work, traineeships, or studies related to the topic area of the planned doctoral thesis;
• A signed CV of doctoral thesis supervisor(s) indicating the number of scientific publications for the last 5 years, the number of doctoral students who have obtained an academic degree, and the term of the status of LCS expert;
• Copies of documents certifying training in courses, seminars, participation in conferences and seminars (if any) on the topic area of the planned doctoral thesis;
• Copies of publications (if any) on the topic area of the planned doctoral thesis;
• Registration fee payment confirmation (payment must be made via online banking. The document shall be attached under “Payments” section. If the payment is made via a bank link, the system will show it automatically, there is no need to upload the payment order file);
• The abstract of the planned doctoral thesis with the signatures of the applicant and the supervisor(s) of the doctoral thesis;
• A digital photo for your student ID;
• If any of the documents to be submitted has a different name and/or surname and/or personal ID number than the one in the passport, a document certifying the change of personal data and a completed application must also be attached;
• If you obtained your educational documents or academic degree abroad (except in Estonia and Lithuania), the application shall be accompanied by a statement from the Academic Information Centre stating which Latvian educational document or academic degree corresponds to the educational document or degree obtained abroad.

After submission, your electronic application will be reviewed and approved by RSU Student Services staff via email between 1 September and 4 November 2025. You will receive an email with further information about admissions, results, and if admitted, signing the study contract.

20.00 EUR when applying online for an unlimited number of study programmes.

Registration fee procedure

The registration fee for the submission of documents can be paid by bank transfer to the RSU account (bank or internet bank) or via a bank link when registering through e-Admissions.

Doctoral Dissertation Oral Defense

The oral defences of doctoral thesis abstracts in 2025 are scheduled between 5 and 28 November.

Notification of results and signing contracts

The results of the admission competition will be announced on 12 December 2025, starting at 12:00 (EET):

• in the applicant’s application
• on www.rsu.lv/rezultati
• via email to the address provided in the application

The signing of study contracts will take place on 12 and 13 January 2026.

Applicants who have concluded a study contract for studies financed by natural and legal persons must pay the first instalment by 16 January 2026.
