Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
The 1st level of higher education or an academic Bachelor’s degree in sports science has been obtained, or study courses in general and developmental psychology, general pedagogy have been mastered.
Objective:
To provide students with knowledge on sports psychology and psychological preparation of athletes, as well as to promote the development of awareness of psychological skills, their development and use in the athlete’s career, by deepening understanding of the activities of a sports specialist in integrative preparation of athletes and providing psychological support to athletes.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
1. Analysis of one general and one specific psychological preparation task; 2. Analysis of a freely selected athletes’ mental skill and assessment of improvement opportunities (self-motivation, goal-setting, visualisation, positive inner voice, ideomotor training, etc.). 3. Assessment of athletes’ pre-start states and pre-start routine using video analysis. 4. Compatibility and unity, its improvement in a sports team/group. Independent learning with a presentation: Content of psychological support for athletes of a given age group in two selected athletic disciplines.
Assessment Criteria:
The total assessment is summative: 1. Analysis of one general and one specific psychological preparation task; 2. Analysis of a freely selected athletes’ psychological skill and assessment of improvement opportunities (self-motivation, goal-setting, visualisation, positive inner voice, ideomotor training, etc.). 3. Assessment of athletes’ pre-start states and pre-start routine using video analysis. 4. Compatibility and unity, its improvement in a sports team/group. Independent learning with a presentation: Content of psychological support for athletes of a given age group in two selected athletic disciplines.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:1. Will know the nature and formation of sports psychology. 2. Will know the tasks of general and special psychological preparation of athletes; 3. Know the link between psychological preparation and physical, technical and tactical fitness of athletes; 4. Knows the main psychological skills of athletes and the possibilities for improving them.
Skills:1. Knows how to evaluate the possibilities of using psychological skills in optimising athletes’ pre-start states. 2. Knows how to discuss the social traits of psychological fitness in team sports.
Competencies:1. Knows how to analyse athletes’ pre-start states. 2. Knows how to analyse and develop psychological support content for athletes in a selected athletic discipline.
