Preliminary Knowledge: | Knowledge of main medical fields such as neurology, cardiology, orthopedics. | ||||||||
Objective: | Disease management is a team-based aspect of medical practice that is patient centred, goal directed and aims to optimize patient function and quality of life, prevent complication and increase community participation. Medical students will be responsible for the care of patients with disabilities regardless of what field they choose to enter, because, in the present time, patients treated by virtually all specialities express rehabilitation needs. Students need to gain a basic knowledge of rehabilitation, assessment, recognising disabilities. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | Preparation of a clinical case description as a presentation, indicating both – medical and rehabilitation problems, as well as choosing the assessment tools in the particular clinical situation. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Written exam (a test with 50 multiple-choice questions) and a clinical case in which a diagnosis, medical and rehabilitation problems, the assessment tools (measurements) at body function and structure level, activity and participation level must be defined. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | On course completions students gain knowledge about: • principles of rehabilitation medicine in different stages of health care; • main clinical courses of rehabilitation medicine; • prevention of disability and handicap; • risk assessment of medical complications for patients with sedentary lifestyle; • individual rehabilitation plans. | ||||||||
Skills: | On course completions students will be able to: • identify the patient's medical and rehabilitation problems in different health conditions; • choose and apply the tools for assessing functional abilities learned within the course (manual muscle strength assessment, muscle tone assessment according to the Ashworth scale). | ||||||||
Competencies: | Use knowledge and practical skills in assessment of the patients’ health problems and functioning. | ||||||||
