Preliminary Knowledge: | Normal anatomy, normal physiology, principles of physiotherapy, kinesiology, motor control. | ||||||||
Objective: | • To acquire knowledge and skills in assessing and analysing the functional condition of muscles, and justifying, selecting and applying therapeutic measures. • To acquire knowledge and practical skills in the assessment, analysis and correction of posture, gait and postural control. • To promote students’ understanding of patient examination and treatment planning in the context of ICF. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | For each class, the student has to repeat the material previously learned related to the topic of the class; learning testing and therapeutic methods in pairs; situation analysis in groups. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | During practical classes, analysis of situational tasks in groups, testing of practical skills; colloquia involving extended analysis of situational tasks, including testing of practical skills. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | As a result of the studies, the student will be able to outline the concepts of muscle length and strength, explain the assessment thereof, possible changes and causes thereof, explain the principles for selecting therapeutic measures, analyse muscle imbalances, present the theory of coordinated and sequential action of muscles, explain the role thereof in the performance of qualitative movements and postural control; the student will be able to describe normal posture and gait, explain the assessment thereof, possible changes and causes, explain the principles for selecting therapeutic measures; be able to explain the basic principles of aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and treatment of myofascial pain. | ||||||||
Skills: | As a result of the studies, the student will be able to perform muscle length and strength tests, posture and gait analysis, postural control assessment; will be able to select and apply appropriate therapeutic measures to improve muscle strength, restore muscle length, correct muscle imbalances, improve coordinated and sequential muscle work, posture, gait and postural control. The student will be able to demonstrate palpation of myofascial pain points and soft tissue techniques to relieve myofascial pain. | ||||||||
Competencies: | As a result of the studies, the student will be able to synthesise the acquired knowledge and skills by assessing the physical functional status of a person in the context of ICF and, based on the results of functional tests and interpretation thereof, will be able to develop and implement a physiotherapy programme including therapeutic exercises and soft tissue techniques. | ||||||||
